At 2:05 p.m. March 9 Edmonton Police Service received a report of a suspicious person with a handgun walking into Lister Hall. EPS proceeded to look through the building to locate the subject matching the description. EPS determined there was no imminent threat to public safety, therefore the building was not under lockdown while they conducted their search.

The subject of interest was located and this person was found to be in possession of a toy gun. The incident was peacefully resolved at approximately 3:00 p.m. and activities in Lister residence have returned to normal.

We understand that a police presence in Lister Hall is frightening for our community. Mental health resources are available for any students or staff who feel they would like this support. The safety and security of our campus community is our primary concern and we take these incidents very seriously. Any members of the UAlberta community needing access to support services can go here for more information. https://www.ualberta.ca/current-students/health-support
